MATURE BASKETRY VIEW IMAGES

During the past several years my baskets (whose proportions now are based on the principles of sacred geometry) have become the mature, graceful feminine forms I envisioned upon arriving in the Southwest. The old wrapped reed rims have been replaced by hardwood elements, and bleached white cane now harmonizes with black, red and natural to lend a more contemporary look to the work. Formal features such as these support the new emphasis on content; decorative design has evolved into thematic purpose: narrative and symbolic content is expressed through simple glyph-like forms. With these abstractions I have woven my own stories and meditations on universal themes like time, prayer, migration, thanksgiving and abundance. This appears to be the direction in which my work is moving. The simple decorative chain designs in my early Nantuckets have evolved into a means of expressing personal content in my baskets.
